Parents and carers often have questions that they ask us during Open Mornings.  We have tried to compile answers to as many of these questions as possible.  You can click on each question to show its answer.

How do I apply for a place for my child at The Knights Templar School?

Our admissions are managed by Hertfordshire County Council on our behalf.  You should refer to their site for information on the application process. 

We live outside the priority area for admissions.  How likely is it that my son/daughter will get a place in Year 7?

The following parishes are included in the priority admissions area for The Knights Templar School: Ashwell, Baldock, Bygrave, Caldecote, Clothall, Edworth, Hinxworth, Newnham, Radwell, Rushden, Sandon, Wallington and Weston.  Priority for admissions is given to children who live in these parishes, regardless of whether they already have a sibling who attends the school.

Places are then allocated to children who live outside of the priority area who have a sibling who attends the school.  Finally, places are allocated to children who live outside of the priority area and who do not have a sibling at the school.  This allocation is based on distance from home to school and this is calculated by Hertfordshire County Council.

As illustrated below, the number of children outside of the priority area who are offered places varies considerably from year to year.  Therefore, we are unable to estimate the likelihood of a successful application. 

• In 2020, 210 places were offered.  Of this, 21 lived outside of the priority area, but had a sibling already attending the school.  43 lived outside the area and did not have a sibling already attending the school.  The home to school distance of the most distant child admitted was 2,824.48m.
• In 2019, 210 places were offered.  Of this 23 lived outside of the priority area, but had a sibling already attending the school.  7 lived outside the area and did not have a sibling already attending the school.  The home to school distance of the most distant child admitted was 1,395.07m.

What is the school's Ofsted grading?

How much does the school uniform cost?

You can find details on our uniform here.  Many items can be purchased from High Street suppliers.  However, school badged items are available from The Uniform Monkeys and Beat School Uniforms and you can view prices on their website or in their shops.

How many subjects will a Year 7 student study?

Year 7 students study 14 subjects.  You can find out more about this from our curriculum overview, which includes a list of the subjects studied in each year and the number of hours per fortnight that students study that subject.

Do you set students by prior attainment?

We do set students based on their prior attainment in certain subjects. You can find information on our setting arrangements here.

Which Modern Foreign Languages do you offer and which one will students learn in Year 7?

All students in Year 7 learn French.  Most students continue this in Year 8 and all students begin German at this point.  Students who have worked well in French and German may opt to begin Spanish in Year 9 on a fast-track course.
